POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Traffic Signal Installer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of traffic signal systems and related equipment. This position ensures the safety and efficiency of traffic flow in various environments, while adhering to all safety protocols and standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of electrical systems, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the physical capability to perform demanding outdoor work.
YOUR ROLE
•
Install, maintain, and repair traffic signal systems, including signal poles, controllers, cabinets, and related components.
•
Diagnose and repair malfunctioning traffic signal equipment and electrical systems, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.
•
Perform preventive maintenance on traffic signals and associated equipment to minimize system downtime.
•
Install and maintain underground conduit, wiring, and electrical components.
•
Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic systems, including loop detectors, pedestrian features, and video traffic systems.
•
Perform installations of overhead street signs and other traffic control hardware.
•
Respond to emergency repairs due to vehicle accidents, weather damage, or other events that impact traffic signal systems.
•
Operate specialized equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, and saws for installation and maintenance tasks.
•
Interpret engineering plans, electrical schematics, and construction specifications to execute projects accurately.
•
Document all work performed, maintain accurate records of equipment and supplies, and submit detailed reports to supervisors.
•
Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, including MUTCD and NEC standards.
•
Collaborate effectively with team members, contractors, and municipal representatives to complete projects on time and within budget.
•
Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
•
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
•
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in electrical systems or traffic signal installation and maintenance.
•
Strong understanding of electrical principles, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting techniques.
•
IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Technician Certification is a plus.
•
Familiarity with MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices), NEC (National Electrical Code) standards, and traffic signal operation protocols.
•
Ability to operate and maintain tools and equipment such as bucket trucks, saws, and testing instruments.
•
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a strong attention to detail.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Traffic Signal Installer role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, as well as frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching in outdoor environments. Technicians must be comfortable working at heights using bucket trucks and aerial lifts, often in various weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind. The role involves operating heavy equipment, handling small electrical components, and distinguishing colors for proper wiring. Extended periods of physical activity, including digging, pulling cables, and installing equipment, are necessary. Sufficient vision and hearing are required to identify traffic conditions and safety hazards effectively.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required.
