POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Foreman, the Concrete Finisher / Form Setter is responsible for placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing concrete surfaces and structures within the underground crew. This role includes setting forms to the correct depth and pitch, constructing in-place forms for molding concrete structures, installing reinforcing materials, and performing high-quality finishing work. The Finisher / Form Setter must ensure all work meets industry standards while adhering to company safety policies, material handling procedures, and underground construction specifications.
YOUR ROLE
•
Guide concrete trucks into position and direct discharge using chutes, come-along, or shovels.
•
Spread and level concrete to grade using screeds, floats, and hand tools.
•
Follow Foreman-provided screeding grades for flatwork, curbs, and ramps.
•
Screed independently or with a second screed man using proper signals.
•
Smooth and finish surfaces using bull floats, fresnos, edgers, jointers, and trowels.
•
Maintain required slopes, thicknesses, and regulatory compliance for driveways, sidewalks, and ramps.
•
Read blueprints and specifications to determine form dimensions and layouts.
•
Cut, assemble, and secure wooden or prefabricated forms using fasteners.
•
Set elevations with string lines, transit levels, and % levels for ADA compliance.
•
Install and adjust reinforcing steel, dowels, and rebar ties per specifications.
•
Differentiate and apply proper tie methods for reinforcement.
•
Identify underground utilities and follow potholing processes.
•
Recognize soil condition changes and adjust excavation methods.
•
Install conduit, ground boxes, foundation anchor bolts, and expansion joints.
•
Stage materials properly and remove stakes/panels without damage.
•
Ensure safe placement of traffic control devices when working in traffic zones.
•
Maintain and clean hand tools, saws, drills, floats, and screeds.
•
Conduct weekly truck inspections and report issues to the Equipment Manager.
•
Follow E-Z Bel safety policies, Core Values, and EOS standards.
•
Wear PPE and enforce safety measures against hazards like silica exposure.
•
Attend weekly safety meetings and report concerns to the Foreman.
•
Assist with patching, cleaning curbs, junction boxes, and site prep.
•
Support the Foreman in lane closures and traffic control as needed.
•
Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.
WHAT YOU BRING
•
2+ years of experience as a Concrete Finisher / Form Setter, specializing in underground and utility-related concrete work.
•
Proficiency in form setting, concrete finishing, and elevation layout using levels, string lines, and proper measurements.
•
Ability to differentiate rebar sizes, bar splicing lengths, and proper tie methods for reinforcement work.
•
Physical strength and stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
•
Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality finishing and compliance with specifications.
•
Good hand-eye coordination, balance, and depth perception for precise finishing work.
•
Basic proficiency with tablets or digital reporting tools for work documentation (preferred).
•
Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends as needed.
•
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Concrete Finisher / Form Setter role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and perform frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching in outdoor environments. This position involves working in trenches, confined spaces, and around heavy equipment while being exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind. Candidates must have the manual dexterity to operate hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments, as well as the physical endurance to perform screeding, form setting, and finishing tasks for extended periods. The role also requires good vision and depth perception for accurate formwork placement, leveling, and concrete finishing, along with hearing ability to recognize signals, equipment sounds, and job site hazards.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required.
