Intake Specialist

This is a full-time position.

Position Summary: The Intake Specialist (IS) serves as an advocate and liaison between the client/family and community partners. The IS will be responsible for greeting guests, accurately gathering visitor and potential client information, and will work to coordinate entry into MELJ Center programs as applicable. This position performs in-depth screenings about identifying technological, educational, and health and other barriers that they are facing. The IS will become deeply familiar with the MELJ Center’s programs including the “HOPE” program, the “FOR REAL” program, “Employment for Me,” counseling services, educational services, re-entry services, housing assistance, professional development for displaced workers, and referral setups for outside organizations. This position requires strong computer skills, time management skills, and compassionate relationship management skills. Occasionally, the IS will be responsible for running outreach projects and distributing program information to targeted populations. Ultimately, the IS will be responsible for providing initial and ongoing case management services as they relate to formerly incarcerated individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Convey the program’s purpose and services to user population and the benefit to the community
  • Establish trusting relationships with clients and their families while providing general support
  • Perform intakes, screenings, assessments (Virtual/In Person), and referrals into programs; assist clients with supporting documentation, applications forms, and registration forms as needed
  • Develop support plans, provide on-going case management, monitor client’s health and welfare, document contacts and case management activities, resource development, and case closure
  • Coordinate services to assist clients in increasing stability factors in their lives and accessing community resources including Austin community-based agencies or 311 online applications or calls
  • Maintains case files and prepare monthly reports
  • Ensure adherence to documentation protocols, maintain physical and electronic files, prepare summary reports as needed, and ensure security and confidentiality of client records
  • Adhere to MELJ Center policies and procedures; supports an environment based in respect, the utilization of ethical communication, and adherence to the organization’s non- negotiables
  • Work with government liaisons to gather relevant program data and provide detailed program reports for Executive Director
  • Assist with the overall organization, cleanliness, and physical appearance of the MELJ Center
  • High School Diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • A valid driver’s license is preferred
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule as assigned
  • Experience working with judicially-impacted populations and formerly incarcerated individuals
  • Relevant experience working in a professional office setting using standard office equipment
  • Strong data entry, computer, and communication skills
  • Strong ethical standards

Preferred qualifications and experience:

Working Conditions:

This job operates in an office environment and various government sites. This position could include working indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions and in loud environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position will also require some physical abilities such as moving and transporting supplies up to 30lbs with or without mechanical aides. Employees might also be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when in enclosed, indoor settings if necessary.
